The Law States that employers have a responsibility to ensure others are not put at risk by work activities of their employers. This is just the same in driving as any operation in the office, workshop or site etc. If an employee has a an accident at work and an employer has not complied with OCCUPATIONAL ROAD RISK (ORR) they at risk of hefty fine, a prison term or even corporate manslaughter.
- Company vehicle drivers who made trips in excess of 20,000 miles per year statistically are at a 1 in 8000 risk of serious or fatal accident.
- They are involved in 20 deaths and 250 serious accidents per week.
- There are 5 times more drivers killed at work than any other industrial accident.

A simple tip (one of many)
A written instruction such as “Do not use Mobile Phones whilst Driving” could save the company and it’s directors from prosecution. In a recent case a driver who caused death whilst on the phone was sentenced to a lengthy prison term his employers were acquitted due to his written instructions!
